I spent the weekend in New Jersey. I was supposed to see U2 but even though that wasn’t happening, it was a good opportunity to visit some friends.
I met Trish online probably about a decade ago. How did we meet? Would you be surprised to hear it was over Dawson’s Creek? No, probably not. We chatted on a message board, we actually met in person 8 years ago and hit it off. Over the years we’ve become good friends – great friends actually even beyond our mutual love for all things Pacey and hot shirtless vampire-y. Seeing her this weekend was so emotional – having been so long despite how close we are by phone and email. She made an amazing spread of food, I got to meet her family and it was really really wonderful.
The next day I got to meet my new blogging pal Julie. Would you be surprised to hear we met over Dawson’s Creek? No, probably not. Since then we’ve followed each other’s blogs, and started some joint FanGirly projects (mostly Julie starts them, I get enthusiastic, then never get around to doing my part!) We talked about actual real life stuff, and of course lots about hot shirtless vampire boys. But it was wonderful to again find that the person “behind the monitor” is someone you truly like and connect with beyond the topics that initially brought you together.
And of course no New Jersey sojourn is complete without The Awesome Jill! Spending the afternoon lolling in a hotel pool with her plotting Crush Crafts and laughing ourselves silly is the best way to spend a Sunday. We helped her kick off her Birthday Week in style with Flamingo and U2 themed swag and a honkin’ piece of cheesecake (served up to the strains of U2 no less!)
Of course this was all made possible by my OJG – Original Jersey Girl – my mom. She is the Obsessive that raised me to be an Obsessive, which allowed me to meet fellow Obsessives, who are all incredible, fun, smart, fabulous women. They make me proud to be a Honorary Jersey Girl (and that’s official per this shirt from Trish!)

You are an honorary jersey girl, sweetie! It was so incredible to see you and it seemed like we hadn’t missed a day of each others lives. I can’t believe that it was 8 years since I saw you last! I am also more than a little in love with the idea of a full out jersey fangirl convention!

Awww this is so sweet! Jersey welcomed you with open arms…well, Montclair definitely did lol
It was so much fun and I think U2 should have hung out with the five of us since we were all having such a blast!!! But the good thing is we get to do it again next year! It was truly a perfect weekend for all Sister Obsessives 🙂

Excellent post as always, Amy! Who else could manage a blog entry that completely encapsulates FOUR fangirl relationships AND a Jersey Fangirl Convention weekend, all narrated through a series of previous blog posts? 🙂 Completely masterful!
I say, next year, we make this an all out Fangirl Conference, complete with lectures on Dawson’s Creek, Brandon Flowers, U2, Shirtless TV Stars, True Blood, and, of course, The Vampire Diaries. Mimosas will be served (along with BLOOD-y Marys . . . and blood sausage).
